Candles
In The Roman Rite
Sale Price: $19.95 ORDER HERE - ORDER INFORMATION
Rev. Edwin Ryan
STK# 8444
This
fascinating book on the use of candles in the Roman liturgy was previously
nearly impossible to obtain. In addition to the
explaining the ancient use and symbolism of candles, Fr. Ryan outlines
the various liturgical rules for candles.
This book is also unique and interesting for its wonderful illustrations
which depict liturgically-correct altars properly vested with antependiums
and conopaeums(even with some optional riddel curtains) and decorated
with candles and flowers the Roman way(i.e., more so around the
altar than on).
The book is an excellent example of the Liturgical Movement's efforts
in the United States to promote authentic practices of the
Roman Rite against commonplace abuses and undesirable expressions
of liturgical art.

Learning
the Mass
Sale Price: $14.00 ORDER HERE - ORDER INFORMATION
STK# 8359
First
published in 1960, this instructive book by rubrician Fr. Walter J.
Schmitz, gives detailed instructions on how to properly say the
traditional Roman Mass (Missale Romanum), and has been treasured by
priests and seminarians for decades for its brief and concise
explanations of how the celebrant offers Low Mass.
For the explanation of the Mass, texts are arranged into parallel
columns, with one side presenting in English the minute actions made
by
the celebrant with his hands (especially when dealing with the consecrated
Species), eyes and body, while the other side gives the actual Latin
text as seen in the missal for comparison. In addition to many helpful
tips, authoritative footnotes are also included.
There is also a chapter on bination (celebrating two Masses consecutively,
hence how to avoid breaking the necessary fast) rubrics,
Requiem Masses, distributing Communion, and executing the ceremonies
of Benediction. Also included is a nota bene about some minor
revisions made in 1962 not contained within the book due to its publishing
date.
This compact book is a must for any cleric learning to celebrate the
traditional Roman Mass,
or even for just brushing up on the Mass or Benediction rubrics!

Bernard A. Hausmann, S.J.
STK# 8303
Explanation
of how to daily pray the 1962 Divine Office The title word "new"
is rather misleading today—it refers to the new code of rubrics
of 1960 for the traditional Roman Breviary. In this handy, concise
and easy-to-read book, Fr. Hausmann leads the reader step by step
through each of the eight canonical hours, their contents, special
particulars, and how they are said, all the while providing important
tips on how to recite the Divine Office with a correct liturgical
spirit. An indispensable book for any Catholic who would like to become
better acquainted with the traditional Roman Breviary, the Church's
liturgical treasure, which, in connection with the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass, forms the Church's official daily prayer.
A great gift for seminarians, perfect also for any cleric or laic
who might want to brush up on their breviary rubrics!

Liber
Usualis
Out of print
Solesmes
STK# 8346
Liber
Usualis
(Missae et Officii: Pro Dominicis et Festis cum Cantu Gregoriano)
1962 edition
The Liber Usualis (pronounced Lee-behr Oos-oo-ah-lees and Latin for
The Book of Common Use) is usually associated with the Gregorian chant
propers sung at Mass, but its usefulness doesn't end there!
The Liber (as it is commonly called) is first and foremost a practical
combination of the various official liturgical-musical books of the
Roman Rite (e.g., Kyriale, Graduale Romanum, Cantorinus, Officium
Hebdomodae Sanctae Instauratus) used for both chanting the various
parts of the Divine Office and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
It also contains a wealth of ancient Latin hymns, ad libitum Kyriale
modes, litanies and even the Ordo Missae (the Ordinary, Prefaces and
Canon of the Mass) allowing it to be used in place of a daily missal
during Mass.
The Liber further explains the names of the various components of
Gregorian chant, the method for properly rendering it according to
the "Solesmes method" (ordered by the Holy See to be followed
by all who use the Roman Rite), how to chant the Lessons, Epistles
and Gospels, a universal 1962 Roman calendar, a section on general
rubrics for applying the calendar and classification system (according
to the 1960 reform) in addition featuring important particular rubrical
notes as necessary (e.g., for the ceremonies of Ash Wednesday), a
general index as well as alphabetical indexes for the various parts
of the propers, antiphons, psalms (even a numerical index for these),
canticles, and hymns, and much more!
Printed in Latin (only) in black text throughout, all of the Gregorian
chant notation contains the important rhythmic signs developed by
the Benedictines of Solesmes during their lengthy chant reform (ordered
and sanctioned by the popes) in the early 20th century.
This hefty, 71⁄2 x 5 x 31⁄2 thick(!) book is handsomely
hardbound in black cloth with gold-embossing on the spine, has red
page edgings, 7 multi-colored ribbons, and sewn binding.
Our offered edition is a reprint of the Desclee's (printer to the
Solesmes monastery) 1961 printing, making this Liber the official
version for the traditional editions (1962) of the Roman Breviary,
Missal and reformed Holy Week ceremonies.
2010 pages, 71⁄2" x 5", black cloth hardbound with
gold-embossing on spine, sewn, red page edging, 7 ribbons.

Mass: A Study of the Roman Liturgy (hardcover)
Sale Price: $39.95 ORDER HERE - ORDER INFORMATION
Adrian Fortescve
STK# 8382
First
published in 1912, Fr. Fortescue’s liturgical-archaeological
classic, The Mass: A Study of the Roman Liturgy, remains one of the
most erudite
works ever written in English on the subject of the historical development
of the ancient Roman Mass up to its present “Tridentine”
form. As an authority on the liturgies of the various Eastern
Rites as well as the Latin,Fortescue had a unique expertise in comparing
the few historical liturgical fragments available from the
New Testament, Apostolic and Patristic times to the learned opinions
of his contemporaries, thereby skillfully outlining how
the Roman Mass perhaps developed over the centuries. He especially
focused on how the Mass organically developed from Our Lord's First
Mass,
and definitively demonstrated that the traditional Roman Mass is the
most ancient and venerable rite existing in the entire Church.

Divine
Office

Compiled by Angelus Press
STK# 6597
What
does it gain a man to have his whole life perfectly organized but
to lose his soul?
It's so easy to lose sight of God in our busy world. But the Church
gave us the answer from the very beginning when she structured her
official prayer around a framework of the psalms prayed eight times
a day so that within one week, all 150 psalms are said.
Here you have the most critical hours of the Divine Office for the
layman in the world. Prime is the perfect Morning Prayer, Compline
the perfect night prayer, and Sext is for the middle of the day.
This is better than private prayer; it's the prayer of the entire
Mystical Body because you pray with one heart with the millions of
other clerics, religious and laymen around the world who have prayed
and are praying these exact same prayers, AND because you adopt the
intentions of the psalmist as you pray.
When understood correctly (this edition has a short explanation preceding
each psalm), these are the intentions for which Holy Mother Church
wants us to pray for ourselves, for the Church and for all the members
of the Mystical Body of Christ.
Our Lord, our Lady, and the Saints prayed these psalms.
Includes:
•An 11-page Introduction explaining the Divine Office and how
to pray it, including guidelines on how to interpret the psalms in
a Catholic manner
•Table of Contents
•The prayers to be said before and after reciting the Divine
Office
•Melodies in Gregorian notation for those who chant the office
in common.
•In timeless Latin with parallel English translations.
•Beautiful edition with sewn binding
•Leatherette cover
•Rounded edges
•Black text with rubrics in red
•Two ribbons
Includes everything for the Hours of Sunday Lauds, Prime, Sext, Vespers,
and Compline; Prime, Sext, and Compline for each other day of the
week.

How
to Serve In Simple, Solemn, and Pontifical Functions
$14.50 ORDER HERE - ORDER INFORMATION
Dom Matthew Britt, O.S.B.
STK# 8386
The ever
increasing interest in the Liturgical Traditions of the Church gives
rise to the need for adequately trained altar servers and what
better way to assist than to resurrect this classic! This famous handbook
is an invaluable resource for all altar boys from beginning to
advanced. Though written for Instructors, this manual can also be
used for home study, schools and sacristies.
Dom Matthew Britt begins by offering specific instructions on common
ceremonial actions, including how to make the proper bow, how to light
the candles, and how to
carry the Missal. He also walks the servers step-by-step through Low
Mass (with one or two servers), High Mass, Solemn High Masses, Nuptial
and Requiem Masses, Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Contains more than 24 diagrams showing the various actions and
positions of acolytes, Thurifer, Master of Ceremonies, Sub-Deacon,
and Deacon. Includes servers responses for the 1962 Latin Mass.
How to Serve is a brief and clear manual from 1934 that is simply
the best book of its kind. It will once again become the standard
reference for
acolytes, handing on to young servers the disciplines necessary for
reverent Catholic ceremonies.
Every altar boy "should realize that...he is , after the priest,
and in the absence of other priests or Sacred Ministers, the closest
one in
the whole church to our Divine Savior in the Blessed Sacrament. Occupying
this very important position in his parish, an Altar Boy's conduct
should be exemplary at all times and in all places." Rev. Joseph
W. Kavanagh, author of The Altar Boys Ceremonial
