Send Out Your Spirit
A Confirmation Candidate's Handbook for Faith
Author : Michael Amodei
Format: Quality Paperback
Pages: 256
Dimensions: 9 x 6
ISBN: 0-87793-952-7
Published: Feb 2003
Send Out Your Spirit offers a comprehensive program for teens preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation. The program is unique because the teens posses its main content in the Candidate Book. The Candidate Book provides a thorough introduction to key teachings and topics of the Catholic faith. The entire program, the Candidate Book and Leader's Manual, has been found in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism. Send Out Your Spirit incorporates three primary characteristics of initiatory catechesis:
Send Out Your Spirit is comprehensive and structured. The content of the material is arranged to help the teens to understand initial requirements for Church membership (Chapter 1) leading to a further presentation of the foundational elements of our faith: God (Holy Trinity), Christology and the life of Jesus, the place of the scriptures in the life of the Church, ecclesiology and Church history (with special emphasis on lives of exemplary Christians), liturgy and sacraments, morality (including the Ten Commandments and Beatitudes), and the Church's social teaching. Chapter 9 focuses on Confirmation as the sacrament of the Holy Spirit, delving into a deeper presentation of life in the Spirit, including the gifts of the Spirit. The basic rite of Confirmation is explained near the time of the actual reception of the sacrament.
Send Out Your Spirit offers an apprenticeship of the entire Christian life. The program includes a combination of prayer experiences, community service suggestions, and faith-sharing activities interspersed within the content of each of the faith themes.
Send Out Your Spirit encourages the further development of a teen's faith life. Expanding of the definition of Confirmation as a sacrament of maturity, Send Out Your Spirit helps the teens to understand the sacrament to be one step in their maturing faith. The process of faith education does not end with reception of the sacrament. Concretely, the newly confirmed teen is challenged to consider and fill adult roles within the Church. Chapter 10, specifically, asks the teens to project themselves into several adult Christian vocations.
The Candidate Book provides a thorough introduction to key teachings and topics of our faith. The main content of this Confirmation preparation program is found in the Candidate Book. The format for each chapter of the Candidate Book revolves around introducing a topic with a relevant story or short lesson. The main content material for each chapter is organized in three or four main sections, with other subsections in each. Each main section includes discussion or journaling questions. The chapters also include one or two personal interest features, quotations from the scripture or writings of the saints (Word of God), and traditional prayers. All of these elements are related to the main topic of the chapter. Also in the Candidate Book is an Appendix with a Glossary of Selected Terms, Sample Service Project Ideas, and 50 Questions the candidates are to record answers for at home and return to class.

Your Life in Christ is a proven and preferred educational tool, having sold more than 82,000 copies to Catholic schools worldwide. From the pen of veteran religious educator Michael Pennock, the text offers students and educators alike an accessible, well-organized, and relevant read infused with new anecdotes, small group discussion questions, and learning strategies for multiple intelligences.
In its revised second edition, Your Life in Christ: Foundations of Catholic Morality offers teenagers practical suggestions for coping with the often-complex problems of faith, morality, and justice in the modern world. The text approaches these issues through focusing on God's love for people, while stressing the importance of loving one's neighbor and being true to one's beliefs in a modern society that is often indifferent to faith. Found in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the text remains true to doctrine while passionately petitioning teens to take a stand for morality by living the Church's teaching in everyday life.
Your Life in Christ: Foundations of Catholic Morality presents the major points of the "Life in Christ" section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. To accomplish this task, the text has been organized into nine chapters, each a step on the road to becoming a moral Christian living within the context of Catholic teaching. These steps include:
1. Understanding the nature of being human,
2. Guiding moral decision-making with intellect,
3. Understanding the law's relationship to freedom and being responsible for transgressions,
4. Imitating Jesus and living the Beatitudes,
5. Forming the conscience and strengthening resistance to peer pressure,
6. Repenting and forgiving others,
7. Thanking God for life by loving God above all else,
8. Loving yourself, and
9. Loving your neighbors.

Encountering Jesus in the New Testament has been found in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Encountering Jesus in the New Testament helps students further their personal relationship with Jesus Christ by growing in understanding of Jesus' historical, cultural, and religious background through an in-depth look at Scriptures. Other objectives of the text are:
to present the mystery of the Incarnation so as to improve the students' understanding of Jesus as both human and divine
to allow the students to enter into the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus by connecting his Paschal mystery with the everyday "little deaths" and "little resurrections" that they experience.
to help the students understand Jesus' mission to establish the kingdom of God, and ways they can participate in this mission.
to encourage a familiarity of the books of the New Testament--especially the gospels--so that the students can use the Scriptures to help them deepen their relationship with Christ.
Answering the question, "Who is Jesus of Nazareth, the person people of faith call "Christ, the Son of God?," is a central focus of the text. In answering this question, the students will explore how the New Testament scriptures provide us with an answer.

Catholic Social Teaching: Learning and Living Justice has been found in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Catholic Social Teaching: Living and Learning Justice introduces high school students to issues surrounding the key principles of the Church's rich body of social teaching that comes to us from the strong tradition of the writings of the popes, especially since Pope Leo XIII. Catholic Social Teaching attempts to understand how societies work and the values that ought to guide them.
This text provides the latest up-to-date applications of the Church's social teaching as it draws on the new Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church and is organized around the U.S. Bishops' document, Sharing Catholic Social Teaching. The text highlights two important principles--the life and dignity of the human person and respect for life--as foundational principles that support concepts like the common good, the preferential option for the poor, solidarity among all the people, and stewardship of resources.
This REVISED EDITION also addresses morality related to current issues such as the war on terror, global warming, the rights of United States immigrants, and "aliens", and stem cell research. The teacher's manual has been updated to a wrap-around format.
